OMG, y'all, Amber's Rodey page is up! Doesn't she look like a mean old lawyer?

I have a lot I need to do tomorrow. Today was the department picnic, which was fun, but it took up a lot of the day. All the better for increasing deadline pressure to write proposal stuff before my advisor gets back Monday night.

So I might Boston plans for the first weekend in November. It's been forever since I've been there! Too much busyness here.

Time is supposed to make things easier. Instead it's given me room to forget and remember all over again. And it's provided plenty of examples of common lackings to remind me of good things lost.

I'm starting to feel like my little experiment is winding to a close. I have so much of a life these days that I almost need to carve out more time for myself. I'm not committed to the enterprise anymore.

It doesn't help that certain things are absolutely ruined for me after lengthy exposure to particular skill. Some things you can't forget, and who would want to settle for mediocrity in fundamentals?

Weekly update. Monday was another fun grad night, where sociology got some play in the discussion. Weds we had class at CCP and I got to show off some of the cool materials I had catalogued or otherwise discovered last summer. D and I also got tickets to the Best of Baltimore party by standing at the right place at the right time. We went to that Thursday night... it was pretty cool, open bar, buffet, hip hop. Friday I had a meeting with my advisor, and now I have things to do by a deadline, so it's all good.

Friday I hung out with the DC boy again, and we watched this movie Brick. It's pretty fabulous. More Greenbelt round trippage... they should really run trains later. Yesterday I hung out with Ami and her mom all day, doing some shopping, ziti consumption, and movie watching. We had whisky sours and watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Ami's upstairs neighbors came down for that... the girl is getting her MPH and was studying for the first Biosttats midterm. Ah, the memories. The movie was totally hot.

This morning some of us had brunch at D's, which was delicious and awesome. Now I'm trying to get work done, with marginal success.

Man, I am so lame at updating.

Let's see, the Friday after I last updated I went to Happy Hour. Yeah, that was interesting. Saturday was a cohort barbecue, and it was lots of good times. Delicious meat, good beer, fun peeps. Sunday I hung out pretty much all day with the grandparents, which means they fed me twice.

To interrupt, I never know what the hell is going on in this class I TA.

Monday I went to the first Grad Night with some Hist of Sci folks Ami has hooked up with. We went to The Den, which is the new lounge above Tamber's. It was way empty, so it was kind of great, because that means we can totally make the place our usual hangout. Tuesday was TV night; we're about done with three different shows. Weds I went with some folks to the free BSO concert, a sampling of their season. Then we tried to go to Iggie's, but it was closed, so we went to Tricia's, which would have been better if I hadn't been wearing my red boots. They're really not that comfortable.

Thursday I stayed home. Too much social life!

Friday I hung out with this guy I had seen once in DC already. We went to the Aquarium for cheap after 5 goodness. Then we went to Fells Pt, where I couldn't find parking, so I headed to the garage. The ramp into the garage was really steep, and I was too far from the button, so I had to put the car in park, put on the emergency brake, and climb out the window to get the ticket. Now, usually when release the parking brake, I put the car in reverse because I'm backing out of a space. But clearly I wanted to go forward. But I hadn't put it in drive, because I just autopiloted into reverse. So I took my foot off the brake and started to roll backwards, so I hit the gas to go forward. But I was in reverse. And tehre was an SUV behind me. Oops. Fortunately, neither car appeared injured, and really the guy's car seemed barely scratched (I have a bit more paint scraped off). So the guy told me to go ahead. Thank goodness. Of course, that did not get rid of the total shame and embarrassment of stupid driving, and my new friend is definitely never going to let me hear the end of it. :-)

We went to Max's and then to Kooper's. Then I had to do a round trip to Greenbelt cuz my friend doesn't have a car, which is fine because I wouldn't either if I lived in DC.

Saturday I went to Hampden Fest, scoped out Hampden Idol, and decided that while on the singing end of things, I can compete, but with the performance end, there were some pretty wacky folks. I went to a beer tasting at Wine Source, then had a couple of BA's finest, and this minor amount of drinking made me incredibly tipsy. Walking back I decided to call M, since I hadn't talked to him in ages. I was walking downhill, wearing my MBTs which are high and rolly, and I totally fell over and twisted my ankle. Wow, my weekend was really a comedy of errors. It's not such a bad sprain, though.

Yesterday Danielle, Ami and I went to the Abell St Fair, and collectively won a wine and cheese party at the silent auction. We also had a delicious wine tasting from Wine Source, yummy burgers, and much shopping for things around the fair.

Congrats to my sis! She is now officially a 24-year-old attorney. If that doesn't terrify you, I don't know how to.

Tonight it looks like I'm going to mix up some art museum and football, hitting the range in the cultural spectrum. No class tomorrow, so maybe I can catch up on some work. Until my required for-credit course, Happy Hour, starts.

This weekend I will be watching Lynn's doggies (they're super cute), going to a barbecue with the greater cohort, and being fed by Ami. I can live with that.

Other than that I am juggling a million things. A few courses (all p/f or audit, but still I must attend), TAing, my job that I've been ignoring, and my dissertation proposal. Oh yeah, also student group elections and wrapping up my job. It's all very time consuming.

But that didn't keep me from spending a decent chunk of this afternoon working on my new blog. I toyed with the idea of a new personal journal, but I've opted instead to keep being vague and sometimes silent about my life on this page and have a blog devoted to my thoughts on public health, psychology, politics and New Mexico. I could write that stuff here, but I'd like dialogue on my thoughts without allowing dialogue on my life, so the separation is better.

Why instant replay should be abolished, reason #84: Madden and Michaels are seriously discussing whether replay could be used to determine whether Saban threw the instant replay flag before the extra point kick. With no sense of irony whatsoever. Okay, maybe that just means those two are idiots. I chuckle.

Adding to my weekend, my grandparents are making their way down the coast on their epic road trip up to Canada and back, so I'll see them Sunday.

I'm so bummed... my Swedgin! shirt appears to be a regular medium instead of a girlie medium. :-( They better exchange it or I am so not paying for it.

In other news, the weekend was jam packed. More fun in DC on Saturday, including art museums, bowling, and a movie (Talladega Nights, dumb but amusing). Sunday I had a big headache, but recovered to go to sushi dinner and pool. I'm not even as bad at pool as I remembered. Yesterday I helped Lynn and her mom move a bunch of stuff... people have too much stuff. And cross-town moving lends itself less to purging of stuff, because packing doesn't have to be so careful. But it still makes me want to throw all my possessions away just thinking about moving.

<1511>

All right, I'm back to content with Glarkware... they are not only sending me the correct shirt, but they're letting me keep the shirt they already sent! And they are super speedy on the email.

Okay, so I really haven't been keeping up with answering the unsolicited questions this page inadvertantly gets through search engines, but I have to answer this one. "Is NyQuil good for a hangover?" Answer: NO! No no no, seriously, don't drink NyQuil for your hangover. And definitely don't drink it to prevent a hangover. It has acetaminophen in it, which is tough on the liver, and really can eff you up in combination with alcohol. Seriously, you might as well drink more liquor. Or, maybe some water or fruit juice or, my favorite, Pedialyte. Ibuprofen, if you must have pain killers.

OMG, y'all, I just figured it out. My life has become an episode of Grey's Anatomy. And I'm stuck in the role of Meredith.
