days thirteen-fourteen; i'm sorry for the lack of individual updates, but internet access has been spotty at best. day thirteen, i realized that the lack of sleep was hugely catching up to me. on both day eleven and day twelve i was hit with an unnatural rush of tiredness early and had to bail on fun times; day thirteen was even worse, as early meant right after dinner. i did manage before crashing to escape from new york for a bit, which was relaxing, but i was just so tired and stressed that when this was added to my usual inability to relax, it meant actually performing the associated action impossible. i came home and just crashed, but couldn't go to sleep (too tired, not sleepy enough), and the internet was out, so i fidgeted in bed forever. it wasn't very good, but there was also no catastrophe involved, so an average day more or less.

day fourteen, i woke up early to drive upstate, where i am for a conference. the drive was a lot of fun; i admit i do like driving (even if i wasn't the one driving), and dave just keeps talking, which is great for me because i have no pressure, no responsibility for not letting a drive slip into boredom. so we got to ithaca and went out for dinner with a bunch of mathematicians. it was interesting -- i got a decent seat around the lives of the party, and it was great, but i was also aware that i was around the few mathematicians who were actually personable and interesting. so i was sad to be leaving these people, because it was a tremendously uproarious dinner, but i was at the same time always cognizant that not all mathematicians are like that. then we got back, and hung out at dave's brother's house, which is on the edge of nowhere -- again, theoretically relaxing, but (a) still not california (there are bugs and the weather is not perfect and there were two fairly large dogs floating around), and (b) contains a couch for sleeping (which was fine) instead of my bed in california (which is exceptional for me.) i can't wait until all of the parameters are in place.

anyway, days thirteen and fourteen, still alive and sane, definitely glad the end is in sight.
