At this afternoon's Live Oak Bridge Board meeting (present John Begley, Tom Shimuzu, Vi Kimoto, Larry Zeni, Joyce del Mercurio, and me), we discussed *asking El Cerrito to paint crosswalk in front of Arlington Clubhouse (John will check with city of EC) *Vi said October is Club Appreciation Month. We plan to have two special events next week (more masterpoints available, as for club championships): on Wed Oct 18 and on Fri Oct 20. *We need help on setting up and cleaning away at our games: filling urn and heating water, setting out coffee supplies, etc, and afterwards, wiping down counter and putting all our stuff back into our locker. Our director has been setting up the urn before game time, but can't put stuff away when compiling game results. Upshot is: please pitch in! All help will be gratefully appreciated. Vi has been struggling to keep us tidy, but we could use others to share these jobs on some of the days. *Dates have been set for holiday parties (game times 12:15 pm; at Arlington Clubhouse, El Cerrito): Wednesday, December 20 (winter holiday party) Friday, January 5 (New Year's party) Friday, February 2 (election party) *Larry reported that several people have voiced concerns about site for LOBC games. (Fairmount Clubhouse was lovely, but El Cerrito cited need for childcare facility, as was discussed at the time of the move.) We welcome suggestions about alternate sites from players, although this has been vigorously investigated in the recent past. A problem with leaving Arlington Clubhouse is the rent there is low: $30 per session. Other venues usually charge more--$40 an hour and up. John said he would check what the city of Albany might charge. El Cerrito will have more facilities in a few years: not yet. Concerns already noted about Arlington Clubhouse are the bathrooms/bathroom keys; noise levels. (At one time, there was talk about putting up curtains, but there are legal restrictions against it--mostly having to do with fire hazard.) So for now, it may be that Arlington Clubhouse IS our best choice. Maybe we can all work together to make it function more smoothly and to cut down on some of the extraneous noise. If you have any suggestions, concerns, or questions, please talk to one of our board members. We're around! (I don't feel free to give out other people's email addresses, but if you reply to me I will forward to anyone I have an address for.) - Joyce Burks jburks@berkeley.edu --
